Giesecke+Devrient unveils innovative trackable smart label solution

GERMANY – Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) has launched the G+D Smart Label, a groundbreaking tracking technology that transforms packages into IoT devices, setting new standards for accuracy, convenience, and asset monitoring.

The Smart Label, developed in collaboration with hardware partner Sensos, is ultra-thin and slightly larger than a credit card.

It delivers cost-effective, accurate location tracking for diverse applications such as parcel delivery, fleet management, and monitoring the movement of luxury goods.

G+D’s Smart Label integrates hardware, iSIM, IoT connectivity, and an IoT platform for seamless management and firmware updates.

With smart motion sensors for detecting movement and acceleration, the device ensures GPS accuracy with sub-10m precision under optimal conditions.

Customizable reporting frequencies and cloud-based configurations make the G+D Smart Label highly adaptable, enabling businesses to tailor its functionality to meet specific operational needs.

This flexibility ensures continuous monitoring and integrity, whether assets are stationary or in transit.

Among its standout features is tamper protection, achieved through an open-close sensor that detects unauthorized access and enhances security.

This capability provides peace of mind for sensitive shipments by immediately alerting users to potential breaches.

The Smart Label also incorporates temperature monitoring, a critical function for ensuring the integrity of perishable goods.

The label helps prevent spoilage by tracking temperature fluctuations and guarantees quality throughout the supply chain.

Another innovative aspect is its reusable design, which activates when peeled and applied to an item. Certified for air travel, the Smart Label’s lightweight and versatile construction makes it suitable for a variety of applications, further reducing operational costs and environmental impact.

Simplified logistics and enhanced security

The Smart Label’s functionality extends beyond tracking to enhance security and accountability. Its compact size and versatile capabilities make it an ideal solution for diverse use cases, from simple parcel tracking to safeguarding high-value assets.

Sharath Muddaiah, Head of Portfolio Strategy for IoT Solutions at G+D, highlighted the label’s transformative potential, “G+D is dedicated to delivering robust and innovative solutions for the transport and logistics market.

“With over 180,000 solar-powered trackers in use, we continue to lead the industry. Following the success of our first-generation Smart Label in 2023, this new solution offers compactness, accuracy, and comprehensive support to set a new standard for the market.”

One early adopter, Track & Pay (TNP), has leveraged the Smart Label to revolutionize global supply chains.

By integrating the label into its operations, TNP has automated payment triggers upon shipment arrivals, ensuring timely and secure transactions.

Joerg Hoerster, founder and CEO of TNP Global, praised the technology, saying, “The Smart Label’s sleek size and active tracking capacity provide a competitive edge.

“It enhances the security of the global finance supply chain, offering a fraud-proof alternative to traditional letters of credit. This is why we confidently provide it to our clients.”

With its innovative design and wide-ranging applications, the G+D Smart Label is poised to redefine logistics, tracking, and supply chain management across industries.
