Fagron expands portfolio with acquisition of Brazilian packaging leader Injeplast

BRAZIL – Fagron, a global leader in pharmaceutical compounding, has strengthened its market presence by acquiring Injeplast, a São Paulo-based plastic packaging producer.

This strategic acquisition aligns with Fagron’s Essentials strategy, aimed at broadening its product portfolio and expanding its customer base in South America.

Injeplast is recognized for its good manufacturing practice-certified, vertically integrated production and contributes low double-digit annual revenue through its efficient packaging solutions.

The acquisition enhances Fagron’s capabilities in packaging and expands its footprint in the Latin American market.

The Injeplast acquisition is part of a broader growth initiative, which also includes the purchase of CareFirst Specialty Pharmacy in North America.

CareFirst, a 503A pharmaceutical compounder based in New Jersey, specializes in health and wellness solutions.

The combined enterprise value of both acquisitions is approximately €30 million (US$31m). These transactions, fully financed through Fagron’s resources, are currently subject to customary regulatory clearances.

Fagron CEO Rafael Padilla commented, “We are incredibly pleased to announce these two acquisitions, which reflect our disciplined and strategic growth approach.

“The acquisition of CareFirst allows us to meet the increasing demand in the prevention and lifestyle segments, reinforcing our leadership in North America.

“Similarly, the addition of Injeplast will strengthen our market positioning in Latin America by broadening our product portfolio and expanding our customer base. Both businesses align with Fagron’s Group margin, and we expect to integrate them over the next 18 to 24 months.”

Strengthening sterile compounding services in the U.S.

In addition to these recent acquisitions, Fagron’s expansion strategy includes the 2022 acquisition of a 503B outsourcing facility on the East Coast from Fresenius Kabi.

The Boston-based facility, which includes customers, suppliers, and approximately 80 employees, strengthens Fagron’s sterile compounding services.

Rafael Padilla, at the time, emphasized the significance of this move, “This acquisition is an important step in realizing our strategic objective of becoming the leading global platform for sterile outsourcing services.

“The demand for outsourced compounding in the U.S. is increasing alongside heightened regulatory scrutiny, necessitating a focus on quality. This expansion allows us to elevate our U.S. sterile compounding business and compete with the top players in the market.”
